Module 3 - Project Goals Targets & Strategies
List your three or four guiding design goals using this format for each goal:
Goal 1: Buildable: Reduce Building/Construction Cost
- Measure: % of sustainable / environemntal-friendly / recycable building materials
- Targets:
- minimally acceptable value: 50% of building materials can meet the environment-friendly target
- desired / target value: 70% of building materials are environment-friendly
- Strategies:
- Use recycable roof, wall materials as many as possible
- Use prefabrication construction materials/parts to save construction time and cost
- Utilizing smart construction scheduling method to plan efficient construction schedule
Goal 2: Operable: Reduce Energy Usage/Building Operation Cost
- Measure: EUI (Energy Use Intensity)
- Targets:
- minimally acceptable value: Achieve 80% reduction since this is 2020 goal
- desired / target value: Achieve 90% reduction (2025 goal)
- Strategies:
- Control the internal and external heat gain or loss by designing an efficient building HVAC
- Installing PV system to reverse the energy usage
- Design reasonable building indoor layout
- Utilizing the natural light efficiently
- Design overhang, reasonable building orientation, window ratio, and distance from indoor core space to window area
- Based on the geographic location, design suitable renewable energy generation equipment (wind, geo-thermal, hydraulic electric generation system, but most cases are PV system)
- Utilizing the smart home AI management to monitor the indoor energy usage
Goal 3: Operable: Reduce Water Consumption
- Measure: LEED v4 for BUILDING DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION-INDOOR WATER USE REDUCTION
- Targets:
- minimally acceptable value: Achieve 40% of water usage reduction
- desired / target value: Achieve 50% of water usage reduction
- Strategies:
- Collecting the rain water, use it for house consumption
- Reclaim the kitchen water (no-detergent) for watering plant
- Reclaim the waste water for toilet flush
- Install the smart water monitoring system, remind the resident the water usage
Goal 4: Usable: Maximizing User Experience-Provide Pleasing Views
- Measure: How resident satisfy the indoor building
- Targets:
- minimally acceptable value: People will score 7/10 for the aesthetic view of building
- desired / target value: People will score 9/10 for the aesthetic view of building
- Strategies:
- Applying an architecture thinking into the model
- Achieving the perfect combination of human and building
- Think building as a plant or tree, integrate it into the ecosystem (modern city)
- Think the building is part of the socity/system, increase the interactions
