Design thinking was instrumental in designing the trash compressor, guiding me through a user-centric, creative, and iterative process. I began by putting myself in the shoes of a customer, and even empathizing with staffs to understand the frustration caused by overfilled trash bins and the resulting negative impact on cleanliness and customer experience. Through this understanding, I could then define the core problem and brainstorm innovative solutions. Prototyping and testing were key phases that forced me to refine the compressor's design for maximum efficiency and practicality. I proceeded to integrate smart sensors to alert staff when bins are full, addressing both user needs and operational efficiency.

All in all, the most sustainable way is to not make things. The second most sustainable way is to make something very useful, to solve a problem that hasn't been solved.
