  • overall strategy and the features of the structural system
    • For this building, the frame type should be typical for 1st floor adn 2nd floor, while 3rd floor is different wherer the space is required no-column for lecture and auditorium space.
  • the material and framing system selected
    • I chose steel structure for this building as initial setting, since the sturcrure is much simpler than other structure type. In addition, 3rd floor is composed by truss sturcutre which can have longer span rather than single beam and which can follow the form of this building facade.
  • the locations of structural columns and major framing elements
    • the location of structural column is the intersection of each grid. Each space is mainly divided by grid pattern, so that there is no concern about the conflict between column location and spatial (design) issue.
  • any special structural challenge
    • truss structure for roof is one of the challenge of this building, which form is following the sunlight pattern so that users feel the sun and open space directly.
