Key Findings from the Interview

  • How do they define the term "sustainability"?
  • She defines the term sustainability as living in a way that is equal to the natural cycle of life. She believes that the earth is able to sustain its way of living by replenishing its resources.

  • What aspect do they care most about sustainability?
  • She cares most about the personal, everyday acts of sustainability. She believes that little actions add up (such as saving a bit of electricity or making better green decisions) and can make a change when it comes to being sustainable and having a sustainable community.

  • What actions are they taking towards living a sustainable life?
  • She is currently trying to develop and foster her green habits, such as being mindful of the electricity, water, and gas usages in her home. Due to COVID-19, she's been walking a lot more instead of driving to places as well. She also enjoys carpooling with her friends as well. She joined a nonprofit organization named Youth Environmental Power Initiative to empower other green leaders to become climate advocates as well.

  • How would they like to foster a more sustainable lifestyle in the future?
  • She wants to become more aware and learn more about green issues experienced today. She also hopes that she can learn to bike by the end of this year too. She wants to keep building good habits like bringing her own bag, sorting garbage, and reducing waste. She wants to reduce the amount of red meat that she consumes and will look toward healthier food options.

  • What are their reservations or concerns about sustainability in today's society?
  • She is worried about people's lack of action and concern for climate change and our unsustainable planet. She dislikes how the older generation pretends that climate change is not their problem and leaves the work to the younger generations. Additionally, she is worried that it'll be hard for people to be sustainable because it is inconvenient and takes effort as well. She thinks that the current systems in place are not always environmentally friendly (ex. most shops offer plastic bags and utensils) and she hopes more changes can be made.
