Module 10 - Plumbing Systems

Plumbing Strategy

My plumbing system provides hot water, cold water, and sanitary drainage for a small male and female restroom on each floor. The core of the building is identical on each level, so the plumbing fixtures and piping could be easily copied and aligned to each level.

The two restrooms on each level are mirrored about their central axis, except that the male restroom features a urinal. Getting the urinal to connect to the sanitary pipes was surprisingly difficult and required me to move it outward from the wall a bit.

In order to accommodate the hot and cold water pipes without intersecting, I wasn’t able to make the plumbing exactly symmetric about the restroom’s central axis. It was tricky preventing intersections and routing pipes around each other so that they would be located centrally enough within walls to have room for connections to symmetrically-placed sinks on either side of the wall.

Strangely, I wasn’t able to set my rendering quality to “fine” for any of my floor plan views and see the true diameter of the pipes, but I was able to in other views. This made using the floor plan views difficult, so I mostly alternated between elevation views and orbiting around the 3D view.

Model Coordination

Using a coordination view with my architectural model shows that my male bathroom on each level has a riser clipping through the corner of the walls, and the sinks are slightly stuck inside the wall. I couldn’t easily tell that these things were misaligned even when looking at the linked architectural model, so using the coordination view is really helpful.
