Can you guarantee that the completed building will match the performance predicted by the analysis in its day-to-day operations?

  • You can never guarantee that it will match the analysis because each day is variable and doesn’t match with a specific prediction. The analysis is to asses the most likely use and operation of the building.

When choosing settings for each of the building performance factors, should you always choose the setting that gives the absolute lowest predicted energy use?

Not necessarily. Cost is also a very important factor and if it cost a lot to make a minimal impact ti the building performance, it might be a more efficient choice to choose a less energy efficient setting. Cost energy models can make these choices easier.

What level of detail should be included in a 4D simulation?

  • It isn’t necessary to include every element but the level of detail should show the type of element i.e. beams, joists, etc.
