In the field of Structural Engineering there are many types of unique and diverse structures that are still being built to this day. There has never been more of a need to design the simpler everyday structures fast and reliably, so we can spend more time innovating. These simple structures include tilt ups, houses, bridges, etc. For my proposed tool I catered towards straight, one or two column, overpasses and bridges. The tool would have the ability to be parametrically designed to fit the needs of engineers and provide a general overview.

Underlying logic of the model you’ll implement

The logic will be split into three parts. The structure is divided into the piers, superstructure, and deck. The basic idea will include line placements that create surfaces which include the different parts of the structure. For simplicity the translate tool will heavily be used to cut down on computation time. Inputs will be accounted for as previously mentioned and these inputs are used throughout all three parts of the structure to maintain the shape and form while adjusting the parameters. Lastly, outputs include the visual of the structure on top of additional costs and structure specifications.

Outputs

A Dynamo model with a overpass/bridge design that includes the piers, superstructure, and deck. In addition a Generative Design Tool will provide an interface for users to change inputs and optimize for different outputs.
