Goal 1: Reduce Energy Usage
- Measure: EUI
- Targets:
- I want the site to be net-zero energy
- At a minimum, I want 50% reduction in EUI
- Meet LEED Standards for energy efficiency
- Strategies:
- I would like to place many solar panels on the site as possible to take advantage of the (likely) desert landscaping
- Utilizing as many natural HVAC techniques as possible to reduce cooling/heating loads
- Have a well-designed building envelope
Goal 2: Public Serving
- Measure: Amount of social and educational spaces
- Targets:
- For the site to be as welcoming as possible to visitors
- To make the center cost accessible
- Provide alternative transportation options
- Strategies:
- Incorporate bike parking and shuttle space
- Have on-site restaurant or cafe
- Have spaces for school groups alongside exhibits
- Keep building costs down in order to keep admission costs down
Goal 3: Sustainable Materials
- Measure: Embodied carbon in building materials
- Targets:
- Use 75% locally sourced materials
- Minimize use of traditional concrete
- Minimize embodied carbon in materials
- Strategies:
- Using LCA data to determine the sustainability of the materials
- Making use of wood products
