Project 1 - Testing Session 1

What did you observe?

What did you observe and note as you watched users interact with your prototypes?

Self-reflection

  • Some users thought that these things were already being implemented, but the target group is actually compounds in China.
  • My presentation format was a little too dull, and the users had a hard time understanding what I meant with just “sort the trash” without any explanation.
  • I had to explain my concept for feature 2 because the user was confused with the diagrams, which was not what the test session was intended for.

Feature 1

  • All users sorted the cup with the label “compostable” in the compost bin, and the unlabeled cup in the recycle bin (no one placed it inside waste).
    • Naturally, they would think that a plastic cup would go into the recycle bin. However, when clearly, labeled, the user would immediately know that the cup should go into the compost bin.
  • A few users noticed the label on the bottom of the cup, but did not know what it meant (even when they saw the same logo on the labeled cup), and would still place it into the recycle.
    • This shows that most people actually do not recognize the different logos for trash separation, which leads back to the aim of labeling the cups: for easier separation.

Feature 2

Though feature 2 was only in words and a small diagram (as shown to the right), users still reacted to its concept after reading:

  • All the users believed this was a good tactic to spread awareness because the flowers are gathered in the community garden.

However, there were some small details that could be tweaked to make the feature better, which will be mentioned in the feedback section below:

What feedback did your users share after the testing?

What feedback did your users share after they've had a chance to interact with and explore your prototypes? *Only feedback regarding modifications will be mentioned below:

Feature 1

  • Add more education content around the cafe, such as on the tables, or on the chairs. This would help costumers learn what kind of trash can go into the separate trash cans.

Feature 2

  • Increase the number of free coffees per flower, because it takes a long time for a flower to grow which makes this a long term investment.
  • Perhaps change the plant.
