Description
This ~500 SF field research center features a simplistic yet practical design. The roof is sloped towards the south at a certain degree depending on the geographic location of the research center, to maximize the utilization of solar energy through PV units. Sufficient operable windows are placed on the south-facing side to capture ambient light and heat during the day for a pleasing working environment. A storage room and a bathroom are placed on the west side of the building and both of which are ADA-compliant, featuring sufficient maneuvering space for occupants with disability needs. Light frame wood is used for the walls of the research center to increase energy efficiency in terms of heat gain & loss. A shared work space is on the opposite side of the building, which reserves sufficient working space for 4 desks and a 8’ lab bench with lab sink, as shown in the screenshot above. Such design is to encourage collaborative discussion among workers. A whiteboard can be placed on the east wall of the building for further collaboration opportunities if desire.
