3. Structural System Strategy

The primary objective for my structural system is to ensure sound structural support without obscuring any of the open spaces or views designed in the architectural model. Elevator shaft, stairs, and curtain walls were all considered, so no columns are within them or in front of them, and neither are beams situated within them. You will also notice that my grid lines are not spaced uniformly and that is on purpose. The different areas in the architectural model called for adjustments to where the best spots are for my columns and beams. I utilized the grid system tool in BIM, but was intentional about moving or deleting girders if they were unnecessary. For example, the small room that only extends up to Level 1 towards the North of the plan view does not need girders, so I took them out. Add only what is necessary, no more, that was my philosophy when designing the structural system.
