Your Design Journal entries for this module should highlight:

  • the design alternatives that you modeled and tested
  • the results of the analyses and how they influenced your thinking about how to move forward

Use text , images, web links, movies... Whatever media works best to express your ideas!

Images of Your 3 Design Proposals

Paste screenshots of your 3 proposed building forms here...

It appears each time I attempted to join a project for instance San Paulo, or NYC I get the “something went wrong” error below. After refreshes my screen it appears I was successful joining project. Then when it comes to making duplicate copy, I get the do not have authorization to make a duplicate copy “show proposal history” text. Did any student exeprice this? for is it an isolated issue?

Your Recommendation for the “Best” Design Option

Create a few paragraphs outlining a brief explanation of why you chose this design option as the “best” after comparing your analyses of the proposals. Explain your reasoning and the tradeoffs that influenced your decision about which design option to move forward with.

Proposal 3 to the far right is the “Best” design option . Bearing in mind, the sun rises at the East and sets in the West and from the sun hour analysis, there is ample amount of sunlight at the south side of the of building which helps me accomplish my goals of deploying photovoltaics panels to convert sunlight to direct current (DC) electricity due to the production of sun. In my final project brief, I will design and implement a solar energy system with the use of a fabric of buildings (building integrated photovoltaics, BIPV) on the south side of the building.

Daylight Potential:

With the daylight potential analysis, Proposal 3 is recommended considering the need to reduce the need for artificial lighting including fixtures thus reducing electricity consumption increasing energy demand. The daylight is essential for occupant comfort including providing sufficient light for exterior view. Specifically I plan on utilizing curtain wall for daylight, which faces the challenge of being within the shade zone of the nearby high rises to the east. Additionally, my proposed design has the northeast getting some level of stable heat gain which accommodate the site's downward slope, with the building masses progressively rising in height as the slope descends. This helps to maximize both the quantity of space exposed to daylight and the ability to let in daylight.
