Biological organisms’ skins are like building facades and envelopes that protect internal systems and structures. Skins and facades also work as insulation to keep the internal temperatures constant.

Similar to an organism's eyes and respiratory system, a building's fenestrations and MEP systems permit the transmission of light and ventilation.

The structural systems of buildings, such as the slabs and columns that support the entire building from the bottom to the top, are analogous to the skeletons of organisms. If the internal skeletons or structures cease to be stable, the entire system could collapse.
