I have three restrooms interspersed throughout my building; one in the administrative wing that can also be used by guests in the dining area, one in the lobby/entrance area, and one in the northern exhibit in the middle of the museum. Each of these has different layouts; the admin one has a parallel layout, the southern one has a mirror image layout, and the northern one has a side by side layout with the lavatories and WCs on opposing walls. Each of these restrooms is located either directly next to a mechanical space or is one restroom away from a mechanical space, so ultimately routing everything back should be a breeze — even though in this model I only incorporated the risers directly next to the bathrooms.

System components:

I wanted to practice modeling the piping system (and also promote sustainability) a bit more, so I did implement a graywater system — the supply is shown in light blue/teal and the collection is shown in magenta. Just like in Glenn’s videos, the greywater collection comes from the lavatory wastewater and is redistributed to the WCs in lieu of cold water. This made the wall space behind the bathrooms a bit more crowded, but I still managed to get everything to fit.

The toilets are 1.6gal public, the sinks are rectangular 19”, the urinals have 3/4” valve. Sanitary and greywater collection have 4” diameters, hot and cold water as well as greywater supply have 1” diameters.

Plumbing Challenges:

I also attempted to insert kitchen sinks into the food prep area, but I ultimately gave up on it since I’m a bit short on time this week. I kept running into an issue where I would place my kitchen sink against the vertical face (that wall angled at 45 degrees below), but when I went to the section cut to see it, the sink would be aligned with the floor plane, and I wouldn’t be able to change its elevation. Then when I tried to bypass this problem by inserting the sink simply in the section cut itself, the family kept importing in plan view even though I was in elevation view — and I simply could not get it to rotate around correctly, everything seemed locked.

Again, I’m a bit pressed for time this week, unfortunately, so I generally used autorouting solutions for my piping system, which means I wasn’t able to take the time to route the piping beneath the lavatories so they’d get out of the way of people’s knees and whatnot. If I had a bit more time, I’d definitely go back and tweak that a little (you can see in the 3D views above); I did it for one set of lavatories in the southern wing but ultimately just used auto solutions for everything else.
