The new building proposed as an annex to the existing Engineering Building is a state of the art facility that provides comfortable and interactive spaces for students to gather, collaborate, and socialize. The building has many windows and curtain walls, which allows plenty of natural light to permeate the building, and a central shaft provides connectivity between the two floors. The design includes large areas to socialize, a cafe, several outdoor patio areas, a student gallery, two maker spaces, and several rooms for group gatherings and meetings. The two bridges that span from the new proposed building to the existing building provide easy access between the two buildings and create a communal space that allow tenants to enjoy being outside. At this point in the design, we would like the client to decide two things: 1) whether the guardrails will be railings or CMU walls, and 2) whether the courtyard will remain as grass with trees or if it would be best to add pavers and include more outdoor tables.
