Concept sketch on Jan 17, 2023- Integrated sustainable strategies
Part 1: Feature ideas
I am considering designing a Sustainable Built Environment Learning and Exhibition Center in Singapore, drawing inspiration from tropical sustainable green design, particularly the style of WOHA architects. Having lived in Singapore for the past 5 years, I am familiar with the challenges and opportunities presented by the tropical climate, including high temperatures, abundant sunlight, and frequent rain.
Singapore also boasts a rich ecology, including tropical rainforests, and the Singapore government has a strong focus on sustainable design for preserving existing ecology and promoting passive design strategies to reduce energy consumption and increase the use of PV panels and rooftop gardens to meet the LEED guidelines.
With this in mind, my building will be designed with three main pillars in mind:
1. Tropical sustainable design with a simple massing
2. Incorporation of rooftop gardens and PV panels
3. Use of green facades with water features
Part2: Inspiration images
I am inspired by the image of terraced paddy fields, which showcase how man-made elements can seamlessly blend with natural landscapes and topography. This solution is widely used in modern design globally.
Additionally, the image of the Son Dong cave in Vietnam serves as an exemplary model for designing tropical interiors and atria. It incorporates a large-span structure and integrates an ecology system, utilizing natural sunlight and wind to enhance the overall experience.
