Using the CSiXRevit Plug-In

Using the CSiXRevit Plug-In

💡
Important Notes: Based on our testing, it appears that the CSixRevit plug-in nrequires an Intel processor. It will not run on a M-series Macintosh computer running Parallels. Before you get started on the installation, contact the Global AEC teaching team (or your class teaching team) to add your email address to the database of authorized Cloud License users.
‣

Load the CSiXRevit Plug-In

  • Start the Revit application
  • If prompted about whether to load the CSiXRevit plug-in, click the Always Load button.
  • image
‣

Prepare Your Structural Model for Analysis

  • Open your Revit project containing your Structural model.
‣
Open a 3D view containing the structural elements to be shared.
image
‣
Use the Analyze tab > Structural Analytical Model > Analytical Automation tool to create a structural analytical model.
💡

The CSiXRevit plug-in does not export the physical elements in your structural model. You must create a structural analytical model with analytical elements to be exported by the plug-in.

‣
Choose the Physical to Analytical for Buildings 2025.2 automation from the list.
image
‣
Select the Revit model elements to be converted.
image
image
‣
Click the Run button to run the automation.
image
  • Close the Analytical Automation tool.
  • The Analytical Automation tool will have created analytical bars (shown as orange lines) for all the selected column and beam elements.

‣
You can enhance your structural analytical model by adding these analysis elements to the model:
  • Boundary Conditions
  • Loads
‣

Send Your Revit Model to ETABS

‣
Open the Add-ins tab > External Tools > Export to Create New ETABS SAFE or SAP2000 Model... command
image
💡

If you receive a VisualBasic error when executing this command:

image
  • Confirm that Microsoft .NET 8.0.4 Desktop Runtime is installed on your computer.
  • You might need to disable some of the Revit plug-ins installed on your computer. My preliminary testing indicates that Autodesk plug-ins appear to be compatible with CSiXRevit, but some 3rd party plug-ins are incompatible and cause this error.
  • The first time you run CSiXRevit after installation, you will be asked to sign in using the email address that you provided to the Global AEC teaching team to add you as a Cloud License user for CSI software. Enter your email address and password to login and authorize your computer to use the software.
‣
CSiXRevit counts the elements in the Revit project and displays the Export to Create New ETABS SAP2000 or SAFE Model form.
image
‣
Select the categories of Revit elements to export.
  • If you have selected some elements in Revit and wish to only export those elements, check the Revit Selected Elements Only checkbox near the bottom of the form.
‣
Once you have made your selections, click OK. The Exporting to Create New ETABS SAP2000 or SAFE Model form is shown and displays the progress of the export.
image
  • Once the process is complete, click OK.
‣
Then, select a destination folder and filename.
  • The file will be given the extension .EXR.
‣

Import the EXR file into ETABS

  • Open the ETABS application and import the EXR file.

For complete details about the information transferred to ETABS by the plug-in, view the user manual.
