What types of building information are best portrayed in 3D views?

  • 2D views are best for conveying dimensions, details, and specifics that are most important to the contractors. They can also help the client picture the organization of space and such, but they are not always the most accessible and are not understood easily by all. 3-D views on the other hand are much easier for most people to immediate grasp the essence of the design. 3D views are essentially previews that help architects communicate to their clients what is to come and get important feedback.

Give examples of how the building information for a specific location in the project needs to be filtered for different audiences and purposes?

The filtration of information is helpful in order to help audiences focus on what is most important or useful for them at any given moment. For the construction crew, the placement of furniture is irrelevant and distracting from the structure they need to focus on. For the client, on the other hand, seeing how furniture might fit into a space can help them picture and better understand the design.

Should your design ideas always be conveyed through photorealistic renders?

  • A fully rendered design signals a level of completeness to the viewer, so it should be used when that is the case. In earlier design stages it might be strategic to instead use a “sketchy” style that instead signals that lines aren’t final and that there is room to change and evolve the design.

Name some applications where viewing the building and model information in virtual reality or augmented reality would be most beneficial?

  • Are there advantages to using a C.A.V.E as a virtual environment versus VR headsets?

How can schedule views be used to assist with procurement and model-based estimating?
