  • Your Big Successes
    • shading features on curtain walls
    • curved cutout to showcase views of the Statue of Liberty
    • roof design
    • natural lighting
    • biophilic design
      • glulam structure
      • daylighting
      • green roof
      • views
  • Your Big Challenges -- what aspects of the project created the biggest challenges and what would you do differently (in hindsight) to avoid or overcome these challenges.
    • structural elements — design architectural features with structural members in mind.
    • HVAC & plumbing — place the mechanical room closer to the center of the building, so I wouldn’t have to route the pipes and ducts as far. For HVAC, this would also be better to have smaller ducts for distribution as well.
    • such large curtain walls required triple-glazed, low-e glass for insulation which would be very expensive in practice.
      • also curious about thermal comfort and glare from these.
  • Lessons Learned -- what sage words of advice would you share with other students who are embarking on a similar project.
    • consider all the systems you need to incorporate when you are doing your initial design.
    • explore different material options beyond defaults
      • i wish i changed the interior wall material and maybe played with the exterior wall materials as well.
