Your Design Journal entries this week should highlight your design thinking that influenced your decisions about:

  • your overall strategy and the features of the structural system –

My structural system's overall plan and features was determined by several variables, including the kind of building, the specifications for the design, the surrounding climate, and the materials utilized. Iron grid pattern considering egress and more open useable space. With regards to Structural Material Selection and framing system selected - My building's height, span, load-bearing capability, cost, availability, and architectural aesthetics all influence the choice of structural materials, which include steel, and other composite materials such as steel beam, columns and girdles.

  • the locations of structural columns and major framing elements – Considering I need quite a bit of spacing, Girdles were utilized and spanned more distance to allow for more open spaces. Strategy was to have columns connected by girdles and beams connecting the girdles.
  • any special structural challenges - Been able to have column without been an obstruction considering this is an exhibition space which requires per one of my goals to have openings for unobstructed spaces.
  • From the perspective of sustainability and environmental impact, my building's carbon footprint and environmental impact can be reduced by integrating sustainable design principles, such as resource conservation, energy efficiency, and environmental responsibility, into the structural system. Sustainable structural design considered several crucial factors, including life cycle analysis, construction waste management, and material sourcing.
