Description
My design is a subtle twist of the style of the existing engineering commons, making more generous use of glazing to maximize sunlight and help the space feel open for the engineering students who are without a doubt spending too much time inside… The workspaces especially are given extensive south-facing windows that will illuminate the maker rooms and the gallery has a completely open glazed ceiling.
This design prioritizes making mixed-use spaces with open plans that allow for flexibility and opportunities for spontaneous connections between students. Each floor has collaborative as well as private spaces and centralized circulation areas to encourage students to bump into each other. Many of the spaces pour out into balconies and open-air spaces, such as the café and the gallery.
