My design is largely similar to my submission for the Give Me Shelter assignment albeit with a few modifications. It remains a multipurpose outdoor shelter with an appearance intended to resemble a Socotra dragon tree (but in reality more closely resembling a palm tree). The parameters that can be adjusted to dynamically change the structure include the height and widths (both top and bottom) of the "trunk", the number and curvature and radius of the tubes on the trunk, the radius of the sphere atop the trunk, the number and radius of the tubes extending from the sphere to the overhead cover, the size and curvature (i.e. sine wave frequency and amplitude) of the cover, the thickness and patterning of the panels on the cover, and the vertical spacing between the structural elements. For this assignment, a user-selected image is mapped onto the upwards surface of the cover. Panels on the cover were flipped for the 2 unit and 3 unit components of this assignment so their heights would extend upwards rather than downwards, and the range of their embossed or debossed thicknesses (as well as which effect is applied) was made into an adjustable parameter. For the 4 unit component, the cover was repaneled with panels with resizable openings that respond to the directness of the sun, and the range of this response is an adjustable parameter. The elevation of the centerline of the cover relative to the two parallel edges was also made an adjustable parameter to showcase the sun responsiveness.
