Install the Navisworks Manage Application
To complete the workflow shown in this module, download and install the Navisworks Manage application here:
Option 1: Import Revit RVT File directly into Navisworks
You load a RVT project file directly into Navisworks manage by using the File > Append command.
- Step 1: Set up a view named “Navisworks” in the Revit application
- First, duplicate or create a new 3D view in your Revit project and name it "Navisworks".
- Use Visibility/Graphics Overrides to select which elements appear in this view. These are the elements that will be imported into Navisworks.
- Step 2: Append the RVT project file in the Navisworks Manage application
- Open Navisworks Manage application.
- Create a new project or open an existing one.
- Choose the File > Append command.
- In the File selection dialog:
- Choose Revit as the file type in the file list filter to the right of the file name box.
- Select your Revit project file from the filtered listed.
- Click Open.
Option 2: Install the Navisworks NWC File Export Utility in Revit
As an alternative, you can install the Navisworks NWC File Export Utility in your Revit application. The main difference is that this special utility will allow you to choose any 3D view as an NWC file to be exported to Navisworks Manage (versus the single view named “Navisworks”).
Most users do not NEED to install this special file export utility to use their Revit projects in Navisworks. Try Option 1 first, then proceed with Option 2 only if needed.
The Navisworks NWC File Export Utility is not installed by default. So, if you don't see the Add-Ins > External Tools > Navisworks command in your Revit application, you’ll need to download and install the Navisworks NWC File export utility for your version of Revit.
- Go to this website:
- Download the Navisworks NWC File Export Utility files.
- Be sure to download both files, then run File 1. File 2 will be used during the installation process.
When you install the NWC File Export Utility, it will add the Add-Ins > External Tools > Navisworks command to your Revit application.
Viewing the Imported Revit Elements in Navisworks Manage
Either method — exporting an NWC file or importing an RVT file should yield a similar result.
