The initial idea for my final design is learned from Tadao Ando. He is the master of using fair-faced concrete, giving original and simple beauty to his project. For sustainability perspective, Ando use a great portion of natural light illumination for his project, and he is known as “Poet of Light”.
Thus, for my design, I want to design a space that accessible for each individuals with no discriminations. The space’s main function is communication and exploration. The facilities and many parts of the building should be integrated in a whole structure with the material of concrete. For sustainability, I want to maximize the use of nature light and circular water to decrease unnecessary energy and resources waste. On the other hand, the introduction of nature light will also bring people closer to the environment. For this project, the fundamental concept is “Experience.” I want to provide a unique experience for people in the building by interacting with nature environment. It is the combination of modern design and nature elements.
Besides Ando, Salk Institute for Biological Studies in California also shows this philosophy of design. In Architecture design, designers will use more designs, materials, or structures in one aspect to highlight the other aspect with less element presents. For this example, the stable, straight design of concrete surface highlight the dynamic water flow in the center.
This design used a lot of modern elements like exposed concrete and large glass walls to point out the feel of nature. So for my design, I want to use green plants and water to embellish the overall design of building.
