What types of building information are best portrayed in 3D views?

Knowing that walls move directly up and down with given dimensions, it is best to view furniture and other interior design features in a 3D view as opposed to a 2D view. Some of these features can include tables, beds, desks, kitchens, and other rooms that create the “ideal atmosphere” inside a home, whatever that atmosphere may look like. As mentioned before, some walls, with the exception of curved walls, can be easily visualized in 2D. The Revit software provides information about the width of a wall and the feature of extending its height to the a given ceiling/roof. 2D designs are most suitable for constructors and engineers since they are more concerned with accuracy over aesthetics.

Should your design ideas always be conveyed through photorealistic renders?

It is definitely ideal to have designs conveyed through photorealistic renders, but it is certainly not required. For example, although it would be nice to have the exterior of a home rendered to see the full look of the home in a given landscape, it is not always necessary to render the inside of a home because the 2D and 3D plan views provide sufficient details. Additionally, there are other features in the Revit software that can portray designs in other realistic ways. At the end of the day, it is all about presenting your design to your stakeholder. Depending on the stakeholder, a designer will make a decision of whether or not to use the render feature. While constructors may not need it, clients would definitely appreciate it.

How can schedule views be used to assist with procurement and model-based estimating?

Schedule views are essential for procurement and model-based estimating. Schedule views conveniently list all of the required elements for any home. Instead of having to count the windows or doors on every level, schedules provide an in-depth overview of all the windows, doors, and other features necessary for modeling a home.
