Description
Enter a brief paragraph (5 to 7 sentences) describing the features of your proposed design that you'd like to highlight here...
This module provided an interesting opportunity to consider how a functional, but relatively minimalist, building could be constructed to maximize efficiency and comfort. I found it challenging to optimize the use of a relatively small space, but I ultimately settled on a T-shaped design, which provided natural locations for features like the restroom and storage closet. Putting these rooms in the sides of the T allowed for an otherwise open floorplan to maximize comfort, space, flexibility, and natural light. One feature of this design that I found difficult to execute was the roof; I could not decide whether it should be sloped on all sides or just some. It was interesting to balance aesthetic concerns with the need for construction by a relatively-unexperienced construction team (i.e. the students at the research station). Another feature I’d like to highlight is the large glass doors at the front of the building, which can be used for both natural light/heating and ventilation.
