Description

One thing about this design that I really wanted to focus on was having lots of window light, especially south-facing windows for the sake of passive solar energy, but also putting windows on all walls to minimize the need of electrical lighting. Putting desks against the south facing windows is a way of making sure the people working will be comfortably heated most of the time even if the average ambient temperature in the station is kept colder. Other things I considered were trying to keep the space relatively open, for the sake of collaboration, as well as a way of making the space feel less cramped. The situation of the lab bench allows people to face potential whiteboard meetings while monitoring tests/experiments. The roof is also slanted south, to make solar panel installation easy.
