Easy Reinforcement

Intended users

This tool would be very useful for contractors and civil engineers in underdeveloped countries.

Need you’re trying to provide a solution or support for

Let’s say there is a bidding for a school construction project. In underdeveloped countries these projects are generally so simply designed. Here we will have a simple design with cylindrical columns and beams with different sizes in each direction. The most important thing for contractor is unfortunately not to build the safest building but to find the configuration with the lowest cost.

This tool will help them to implement a simple design according to the sizes they want, number of beams, columns, or spacings they want. Then, it will both visualize the design and calculates the total volume of the elements, total volume of the reinforcement according the choice of user as percentage of reinforcement and finally gives the total cost.

Inputs

Only constant input will be the cost of the reinforcement.

Others will be: Building height, building width, building length, framing edge offset, story height, number of divisions in x direction, number of divisions in y direction. If they want to use spacing rather than numbers there will be an option to choose spacing in both directions. Moreover, number of beams for the beam system, an option to rotate the beam system, column radius, beam radiuses in both directions, and beam system radius. Final one will be the reinforcement volume percentage.

Underlying logic of the model you’ll implement

It will be a very simple design as it is in real life for the cases I explained. I will be following the examples in Module 8 to implement the geometry only by using dynamo. Then, I will create elements in dynamo and create a logic that I can implement to volume and cost calculations.

Outputs

Volume of reinforcements and final total reinforcement cost.
