Module 9 - Points to Ponder

Can you guarantee that the completed building will match the performance predicted by the analysis in its day-to-day operations?

I can not because there are always changes that arise during construction or mistakes made. There are so many variables when it comes to a big office building like these, especially in terms of the occupants. This is why I predicted the values with a stricter range in case we are not as efficient as expected or hoped for we can still meet the benchmarks.

How can you use Insight feedback to make design choices regarding materials, lighting, PV, etc.?

It can tell us the performance required to reach certain benchmarks. Many buildings will have to reach these environmental benchmarks in the near future, which Insight includes. It also helps us see the areas that have a big impact on energy efficiency versus those that don’t. We also can decide where we can easily be more rigorous on energy efficiency and to maybe see where we don’t have to be as strict, and can give and take.

How can the feedback shown in a 4D simulation help you to optimize the project schedule?

Using a 4D simulation helps us see which parts of the building can be made at the same time without clashing into each other or affecting the pace. We can see overall how long it takes and how we can plan ahead and have a set schedule we hopefully stay on track with. This is why it is smart to have at least one day of buffer in case one task runs slow, or at least have the next task start on another part of the building.
