Description
This hillside home is inspired from historical Asian courtyards. By deconstructing the traditional four walled shape, this more contemporary form allows for connected shared communal spaces on the upper level and private pockets on the lower level. The internal open courtyard is a surprise that adds a bit of drama upon entering. The use of sliding interior and exterior doors reduces hallway obstacles, and also gives the family the ability to personalize the degrees of openness between each space. I also tried to increase the connections between interior and exterior with numerous entrances. The detached garage also has space allotted to store seasonal items.
