Your Recommendation for the “Best” Design Option
Enter a brief paragraph (5 to 7 sentences) outlining a brief explanation of why you chose this design option as the “best” after comparing your analyses of the proposals…
I chose Proposal 3, with two separate triangular buildings. Comparing my analyses of solar energy and microclimates, all three designs were relatively similar in their performance. Surrounded by skyscrapers, there is relatively little potential for a building of the smaller scale that TwitBook is aiming to construct to have optimal sun exposure. Thus, I made my decision largely based on the building shapes, with the assumption that having two separate buildings would add a dynamism to the campus that the client liked, and allow for more spaces to border the exterior curtain walls, maximizing indoor sun exposure. This design features two central courtyard spaces within the building footprints for outdoor private gatherings, and each building is connected by outdoor spaces to create a dynamic hub of motion integrated with the walkable, temperate city of San Francisco.
