Description
In my design, I wanted to make the extension of the building be similar in form, and be a little more daring with the roof. I wanted the roof to be almost a reflection of the original building’s roof, stutter, and then conjoin when the roof turns. The student center/commons extension has multiple small group meeting spaces and maker spaces on every floor. Every floor also has it’s own dining/eating space, restrooms, and large socializing space. Since this extension was aimed towards the students, I chose the large socializing space as the room with two design options. The first alternate furniture layout is almost cut in half, one half for students to work individually at desks, and the other half to sit together on couches around a TV. The second alternate furniture layout prioritized having students always being facing each other, so the desks were arranged in circles and the couches parallel and facing each other.
