What are the principal advantages of creating a conceptual design model using masses before diving into the detailed design and building element modeling?

I think that the principal advantage of creating a conceptual design model using masses before diving into the detailed design and building element modeling is that I can see different analysis, such as sun hours, daylight potential, and wind. This way, I can see if my preliminary design has any major flaws that need to be corrected before I spend a lot of time making a detailed design.

Should all buildings be modeled first using conceptual masses?

I think that in most cases all buildings should be modeled first using conceptual masses because the process is so quick. It might not be needed if a building is being built in an area where the Forma analyses have already been conducted on very similar buildings to what is being planned. I think that conceptual mass models should still be created for small houses because information such as sun hours and noise can heavily influence the design of a small house.
