How do you think design coordination was done before we started using digital models?
I think that design coordination before digital models was done through emailing photos or in person meetings where someone brings up a certain issue with a corresponding picture. An advantage of doing this coordination digitally instead is that it allows a lot more specificity about where exactly an issue is. In the adobe design collaboration feature, it allows the user to select the specific part that is the issue, which I think saves a lot of time and communication.
What strategies can design teams use to find and avoid clashes prior to the start of construction?
What can be done besides sharing the models digitally?
A strategy design teams can use to find and avoid clashes prior to the start of construction is making use of the topography and location capabilities in digital models to take account of what is nearby the construction site and how it might interact with it. It’s also important to contact any companies that might have utilities underground the construction site (such as water utilities, gas/power utilities, etc).
At what point in the project development process should design coordination start?
I think that design coordination should start very early in the project development process. I am not very familiar with the project development process’ intricacies, but I assume that there are often project managers and multiple people working on one project at once. The design coordination feature and issues features is a very convenient way communicate everyone’s responsibilities and opinions.
