Side-By-Side Comparisons of Your Analysis Results
For sunlight analysis: I choose proposal 1 - standard design proposal. This is because the building overall receives an average of more sunlight hours in all different sides of the building than the other proposals. This is probably because proposal 1 has smaller floor area for each level and the taller building allows for more sunlight exposure in all floors compared to the other proposals. The other two proposals have more interesting building shapes but the cutting edge design in my opinion will come in the interior design of the building and working areas, rather than relying solely on the shape of the building.
For daylight potential analysis, I choose proposal 1 also because of the daylight potential seems to be higher and more evenly distributed in all sides of the building. This could be due to the buildings in the other proposals are shorter and also have multiple buildings that block each other, also the new buildings in proposal 2 and 3 are closer to other existing buildings and thereby affected by shadows cast on them.
For solar energy analysis, proposal 1 has lower potential solar energy generation (391 million kwh in proposal 1 vs 395 million kwh in proposal 3 vs 394 million kwh in proposal 2). However, the solar panel installation is probably more straight forward because of the flat and level roof area in proposal 1 than in other proposals). Also, for environmental impact, the next phase of the design for proposal 1 will include planting abundance of greeneries in the open areas surrounding and inside the building.
Your Recommendation for the “Best” Design Option
Enter a brief paragraph (5 to 7 sentences) outlining a brief explanation of why you chose this design option as the “best” after comparing your analyses of the proposals…
I did three design options and proposal 1 is the most conventional building design of the three. Nevertheless, from the analysis done in Forma related to sunlight analysis, daylight analysis and solar energy analysis, I determined that proposal 1 is probably the best option in terms of getting the most natural daylight, and allows for the most area both outside and inside the building to plant greeneries/garden/indoor garden. Regarding solar energy efficiency, it is less efficient than the others probably because the roof area is not as big, however, its flat level surface is probably the easiest for solar panel installations. Additionally, proposal 1 offers the most number of floors which allows for the whole floor dedicated for specific functions such as gym, indoor garden, open work space, meeting areas, socialization areas and cafe. Each of these areas will have maximum exposure to sunlight because of its layout.
Specifically, knowing that TwitBook wants a dynamic and fluid workspace design encouraging open space concept and spontaneous collaboration. In the next phase of the design, I am going to ensure that there are plenty of open workspace with plenty of natural light coming in from the curtain walls. Additionally, I will design an indoor garden area for spontaneous collaboration where the work environment is closely connected to nature (greeneries are proven to help reduce stress and alleviate mood). Additionally, the exterior open space around the building on the ground provides ample parking space and another outdoor garden as well. The roof top is going to installed with all solar panels. The whole concept of the building design will be the integration of indoor and outdoor elements, bringing in plenty of greeneries to inside the building.
