Description
For my research centre I created a simple and sustainable design with a focus on passive solar design features as per the client’s request. To allow for as much light as possible I placed large windows on the south side of the building and skylights on the roof. There are windows present to a lesser extent on the north side. All of the windows and skylights are operable which allows for natural ventilation to occur, increasing the building’s sustainability. I did not place any windows in the storage closet area, so as to maintain the integrity of any material that is being stored. To meet the client’s goal of including solar photovoltaics, I sloped the roof to the south for optimal energy capture. I kept the interior of the building open concept to allow for proper ventilation and maximum lighting. I separated each work station with glazed walls so that the researchers would have some sense of privacy when working.
