💡
Please share your comments on 3 of the following Points to Ponder questions. (Choose 3 of the 5 questions below.)

Q1. What are the primary goals of creating a building model? Who are the key stakeholders?

  • What do they need?
  • The primary goal of creating a building model is to bridge the gap between owners, architects, engineers, and contractors by giving a visual representation of potential issues and allowing for faster, more accurate resolutions. The physical and functional characteristics can be accessed clearly in the BIM model. The stakeholders include funders of the project and designers/managers of the project.
  • What do they care about most?
  • Funders care about its benefits and investments. Designers/managers care about its functions/feasibility/constructability.

Q2. How much detail should you include in your building model? How do you decide?

  • As you develop your initial design?
  • List as much details as I can. Firstly, I need to think about the design principle, like sustainability and saving money. Then based on the principle, I come up with design details and plans. Since it’s a brainstorming stage, I can list various ideas.
  • As you continue to iterate and develop on your design?
  • Add creative ideas regardless of its constructability.
  • What are the key stages?
  • Plan-Design-Construct-Operate
  • And how much detail should you include at each stage?
  • Plan: Generate real-world data from existing building/environment and personal creative thoughts. Design: Perform conceptual design, analysis, detailing and documentation. Preconstruction process begins using BIM data to inform scheduling and logistics. Construct: Project construction logistics are shared with trades and contractors to ensure optimum timing and efficiency. Operate: BIM data carries over to operations and maintenance of finished assets, BIM data can used for renovation or deconstruction.

Q3. What are the advantages of getting the Revit component families (for furniture, equipment, and fittings) directly from the manufacturer versus from an online sharing website like RevitCity.com?

  1. Easy for operation. Designers can get the families straight from load family without browsing the website for a long time. 2. The familes by manufacturers usually have various sizes to pick or choose, but online websites usually have only one size that may not fit in well. 3. Maunufacturers are always trust-worthy, their products are accurate and more realistic.
