This is my overall plan in terms of keeping my building as a comfortable living environment. I am planning to use architectural concrete as building material to have high thermal mass. I will design for areas that allows natural ventilation to let the air flow and create comfortable outdoor space. As a museum, there will be quite some internal heat gain from the tourists inside the building, which may help us save some energy. However, considering the building function (art museum), we will have to design for cooling MEP systems so we may store some valuable artworks. The heating system provides support to maintain a comfortable working space during the cold seasons. I am surprised to learn that the building will only be 83.1% comfortable without the heating system.
By analyzing the sun path in a year, I have shifted the location of the skylight and the shape of the atrium to allow more natural sunlight inside the building throughout a year. By opening up the atrium space, I am thinking about adding stairs in the middle to connect different floors like the Vessel in NY.
