Goal 1: Net Zero Site Energy

  • Measure:  SSF
  • Targets:
    • 0.8
    • 1.0
  • Strategies:
    • Limit need for HVAC system by using intelligent heating and cooling like Y2E2
    • Make building as thermally efficient as possible, using trombe walls, ductless GHP, and high R-Value materials

Goal 2: 100% Natural Lighting

  • Measure:  the square footage requiring artificial lighting during the day
  • Targets:
    • 70%
    • 100%
  • Strategies:
    • Model my walls/windows after the NREL who were able to achieve 100% natural lighting
    • image
    • Conscious use of windows and locations

Goal 3: 50% Reduction in Carbon Footprint of Materials

  • Measure:  the % reduction in carbon footprint of materials as compared to a conventional concrete structure based on rough approximation of amount used. Like the module explained, I would likely use a different amount of timber than concrete, but hopefully I can determine a way to approximate the amount of concrete I would have used.
  • Targets:
    • 20% reduction
    • 50% reduction
  • Strategies:
    • Research concrete alternatives and what would be suitable for this structure
    • Determine loads the structure will need to support so that it is not over-designed and uses more material than needed

Goal 4: Maximize Plants and Green Space

  • Measure:  This goal will likely need to be adjusted once I get to actual work, but having 1 ft^2 of green space for every 4 ft^2 of floor space seems like a doable goal. But could be totally off and will be something I would like to ask about for weekly meeting.
  • Targets:
    • 1:6 ratio
    • 1:4 ratio
  • Strategies:
    • Including a courtyard to meet the majority of this goal
    • Including green spaces indoors as well to make setting feel as natural as possible (especially in combination with natural lighting).
