Three main project goals that I would like to focus on are reduced energy use, reduced indoor water use, and providing visitors with a connection to nature. I explore each of these goals in greater detail below:
Goal 1: Reduce Energy Use
- Measure: EUI
- Targets:
- minimally acceptable value: 40% reduction compared to ASHRAE 90.1 baseline
- desired / target value: 60% reduction compared to ASHRAE 90.1 baseline
- Strategies:
- Optimal building orientation
- Strategic window placement and shading to provide effective solar heat gain and daylighting
- PV panels on site (e.g., over parking lot)
Goal 2: Reduce Indoor Water Use
- Measure: Gallons per Year
- Targets:
- minimally acceptable value: 30% reduction compared to LEED baseline
- desired / target value: 40% reduction compared to LEED baseline
- Strategies:
- Rainwater collection and storage
- Using grey water for toilets and urinals
- Using low flow fixtures
Goal 3: Provide Visitors with a Connection to Nature
- Measure: Green Space Ratio
- Targets:
- minimally acceptable value: 70%
- desired / target value: 80%
- Strategies:
- Green roof
- Green walls (interior and exterior)
