Strategy
In order to define the overall HVAC strategy, I defined the spaces in my building based on the room distribution, the projected climate, and solar exposure.
The building has level 1 and the roof as open spaces. Due to this characteristic, those levels would be unconditioned. In the space schedule, I filter the spaces by their condition type. This condition could be unconditioned if the space selected is an open space; otherwise, the condition type assigned is heated and cooled.
The approximately required supply airflow was first defined to address the solution strategy for levels 2 and 3. I determined the number of required terminals to meet this requirement with this value.
The Air Handler was placed at the roof to take advantage of the open space.
For the ducts of return and supply air, the height defined was considered with a minimum height of 2.5 feet measured with the top level as a reference to prevent crashes with the structural model.
The model is fully integrated with the HVAC system with Air Supply and Air Return Terminals.
