California Academy of Sciences - Living Roof
I really like the idea of a green/living roof, but especially more after reading some of the sustainability measures that the California Academy of Sciences has implemented. The living roof acts as a natural insulation and prevents stormwater runoff. At the same time it created a space for various plants, birds, and butterflies. Another inspiring feature was the operable skylights
Although I really like this living roof, I would maybe try to make the surface of the roof more “natural” and maybe more curvy. I would also like to make the roof more like a walkable garden, so maybe there would be pathways across the roof rather than one platform. Also, I’m not sure how I would include solar panels in my design yet, but I would definitely try to integrate them into the roof landscape a little more.

I´d like to bring some of the outdoors inside in my exhibition design.
Biesbosch Museum, National Park De Biesbosch, the Netherlands
Earlier when I said I´d like to create a walkable garden of sorts on the roof, I guess it would be something similar to this museum. I also really appreciate how the various pyramids/mounds look.
Overall, I’m really excited for this project, but extremely nervous as well. I’ve never taken any design classes so I don’t really feel confident, but nonetheless I think this will be really fun! Last quarter I didn’t really explore too much creatively and was just trying to get a better handle of Revit, but hopefully I can explore much more this quarter.
