Plumbing System Elements
The plumbing system of my building entails public restrooms on 2 levels. Each men’s room has:
- 3 urinals
- 3 toilets
- 2 sinks
And each women’s room has:
- 4 toilets
- 2-3 sinks
The sinks are equipped with domestic hot and cold water, and the greywater will be collected for the urinals and toilets.
Piping Systems
The building has the following piping systems. as labelled via different colors in the Revit model:
- Domestic hot water (red)
- Domestic cold water (blue)
- Greywater collection (purple)
- Greywater supply (pink)
- Sanitary drainage (green)
Men and women’s rooms have separate truck pipes for domestic hot and cold water, greywater collection, and sanitary systems. The truck pipe for greywater supply is shared. The greywater collection pipe also goes up to level 3 where rainwater from the rooftop garden is collected.
Challenges
The biggest challenge I encountered was placing the pipes correctly to avoid clashes between the various systems. Initially when I modelled the architectural design of the restroom spaces, I did not place the restrooms at the same location throughout the two levels, so I could not directly copy the plumbing elements and pipes to the level above. I also didn’t allocate enough space behind the walls for the truck and branch lines. I eventually fixed these problems by placing the truck and branch pipes at different locations and elevations so they don’t clash in 3D. \
