For my building layout design, I wanted the main lobby / floor area to be gathering place where people can then flow to other side rooms. There are 3 main exhibition spaces and the fourth one will be disconnected to allow movement outside as well. I would like to have a garden or some form of outdoor space to encourage people to also see the building from the outside to the inside. I started by creating a layout of the main spaces through a schematic design. I decided to make the museum two floors to create a separation between the exhibition spaces and work spaces. I also separated the Kid’s space from the main room so that there is a space for both visitors with kids and those without:
I then refined the spaces more using more precise calculations. I think it is helpful for me to write things out before modeling it so that the modeling process goes a bit quicker. However, I found that my calculations were off so it was helpful to go into modeling:
I was originally calculating the area of my spaces using the area of hexagons, but in Revit I found that I could get the calculations I wanted using triangles and rectangles instead:
From there I developed the building layout into Revit using the room tag features and modeling the overall concept of the layout. Visitors will enter from the main lobby which connects to every space on the first floor:
I wanted there to be some separation between the offices spaces and the general organization of the museum so workspaces are upstairs where visitors can have access to if they are visiting the educational lab. Second floor layout on Revit (for some reason my computer stopped showing the color coordination, but I made sure that my visibility graphics were on so it might have just been a rendering issue with the computer graphics):
The building layout in Autodesk Construction Cloud with initial ceilings and doors is shown below. I want to download other glass doors that I plan to make automatic and more accessible. I used generic walls for now, but I will research more materials for next week as is said in Module 7:
An aerial view of the building layout is shown below:

In the next steps of the building, I would like to commit to a building orientation that will fit the initial concept designs from Modules 3&4. I would like to dive deeper into the analysis of the wind as I plan the roof and finalize the door components.
