I like the idea of using an existing building to create an exposition space the construction phase of a building being one of the most polluting. This is what they did in Les Bassins de Lumières in Bordeaux where they used an old submarine station to create a wonderful place for lights and sound expositions. The Musée d’Orsay in Paris is also a good example of that since they turned an old train station into a museum.

The goal would be to use an inefficient old building and turn it into a building which electricity is made sustainably (would it be solar panels, wind turbine, water turbine if near a river…), that uses rain water for all non-drinkable water uses (might be impossible depending on the location of the project) and surrounded by vegetation to limit the urban heat island effect. I want green life to be at the heart of the project. In my undergrad university, we had a building with trees inside of it and a green space circled by the building.

If built from scratch, I would like the building to be built out of a wooden structure to limit the carbon impact of it. I would seek inspiration in the design of the Grand Palais Ephémère in Paris which replaces the Grand Palais while it is rehabilitated.
