I think a great exhibition space directs people’s attention to the exhibition objects and has a design that aligns with the theme of the exhibition. It also better comes with a sustainable design.
Here are two of my favorite exhibition spaces:
Long Museum - Shanghai, China
This is an art museum for both modern and traditional art. It was built on an old wharf site for coal transportation. I think the clean, simplistic design reflects modern aesthetics and makes the artwork stand out while posing a sharp contrast with the remains of the old wharf that resonates with traditional culture and historic objects.
Cloud Forest, Gardens by the Bay - Singapore
Cloud Forest is a giant greenhouse next to Singapore’s Marina Bay. It is essentially an exhibition space and a living museum of tropical plant species. The “mountain” structure inside the greenhouse resembles a natural, vertical ecosystem in the tropical environment. It also has a walkway that allows visitors to closely interact with the plants. The building saves energy by maximizing use of daylight and generating power through burning plant debris.
