Goal 1: Reduce Energy Use

  • Measure:  Energy Use Intensity (EUI)
  • Targets:
    • minimally acceptable value: 80% reduction in EUI compared to baseline (ASHRAE Standard 90.1/Zero Code)
    • desired / target value: 90%+ reduction in EUI compared to baseline
  • Strategies:
    • Passive solar design
    • Maximize daylighting
    • Use smart energy metering and monitoring infrastructure

Goal 2: Reduce Water Use

  • Measure:  LEED WE Indoor Water Use Reduction Credit
  • Targets:
    • minimally acceptable value: 2 points (30% reduction from baseline)
    • desired / target value: 6 points (50%+ reduction from baseline)
  • Strategies:
    • Install water-saving fixtures
    • Collect and reuse rainwater and wastewater (rainwater capture, greywater capture, wastewater treating...)
    • low water / natural vegetation

Goal 3: Use Sustainable/Reused Materials (Secondary Goal)

  • Measure:  LEED MR Credit: Building Life-Cycle Impact Reduction (volume of building material)
  • Targets:
    • minimally acceptable value: 3 points (50% completed project surface area reused)
    • desired / target value: 4 points (75%+ completed project surface area reused)
  • Strategies:
    • Build on a previously developed project, if possible
    • Minimize use of concrete
    • different mix of concrete - sustainable concrete?
    • Use recycled metal and glass
    • recycled wood floor, interior walls, etc/ structural, envelope, interior, ...

Goal 4: Restore and Create Natural, Pleasing Spaces and Views

  • Measure:  LEED SS Credit: Site Development—Protect or Restore Habitat and Open Space
  • Targets:
    • minimally acceptable value: 1-2 points (restore or provide 30%+ of site area as outdoor space with native vegetation)
    • desired / target value: 3 points (preserve and protect 40%+ of the site’s greenfield area from development AND restore/provide 30%+ of site area as outdoor space with native vegetation)
  • Strategies:
    • Preserve natural vegetated areas around the project site
    • Create rooftop gardens
    • Create indoor green spaces
