Goal 1: Reduce Energy Usage

• Targets:
• minimally acceptable value: reduce by 30%
• desired / target value: reduce by 50%
• Strategies:
• passive solar design
• use solar power
• install occupancy sensors
• use good insulation and windows to retain building heat

Goal 2: Use sustainable and recycled materials

• Measure: fraction of volume of materials that are sustainable and/or recycled
• Targets:
• minimally acceptable value: 50%
• desired / target value: 75%
• Strategies:
• use wood when possible
• use locally and responsibly sourced materials
• reuse or salvage building materials from off site or on site
• select products from manufacturers who have verified improved environmental life-cycle impacts

Goal 3: Encourage healthy behavior and maximize indoor environmental quality

• Measure: transportation footprint, percent of building lit by natural lighting, percent of airflow from natural ventilation
• Targets:
• reduced parking and transportation footprint by 20%
• 50% of building lit by natural lighting
• 30% of airflow from natural ventilation
• Strategies:
• ensure access to secure bike parking
• central staircases to promote using the stairs instead of taking elevator
• naturally ventilated spaces
• natural lighting
