Structural Framing Systems

For this exercise, I chose a steel-frame system due to steel’s ability to span greater lengths leading to fewer columns and less bulky elements. My goal was to have as few columns as possible so there is a lot of open space and there aren’t any columns in the middle of rooms. Here is a screenshot of the structural framing system I came up with:

As can be seen at the top of the second image, there are beams clashing with the skylight. There are no columns in the middle of rooms or hallways since I made a design choice to place them all on the edges of the building. I believe I met the designers intent since I made sure the structural system was unobtrusive and let the architectural elements shine (aside from the skylight).
