Here is my building’s initial estimated EUI from Insight:

Based on analysis in Insight, I have identified the most important factors and the ideal changes needed to minimize the building’s EUI (focusing on the building envelope system).

For WWR:

  • Minimize for southern wall (no more than 50%)
  • Keep between 30 to 65% for north-facing windows
  • Minimize for western wall (no more than 15%)
  • Minimize for eastern wall (no more than 30%)

For glazing:

  • Change window glass to double or triple low-e glazing on all windows

For overhangs:

  • Increase overhangs to 1/2 or 2/3 of the window height on southern wall

For

  • Change exterior wall construction to 12.5” SIP or R-38 wood
  • Change roof construction to R-38 or R-60 roof

By implementing these changes without adjusting the other factors (e.g. PV and HVAC factors), the estimated EUI decrease significantly:
